Vijayawada, May 22 : The accused in the sensational rape and murder of a B Pharma student, Satyam Babu escaped from the police custody at Surya Pet in Nalgonda district, City Police Commissioner Sitaramanjaneyulu said today.

Talking to media, he said Satyam Babu, gave a slip to the police while he was being brought to Vijayawada from Hyderabad.

He fled when the vehicle stopped at a ‘Dhabha’ for dinner last night.

He said 11 police personnel, including a Reserve Sub-inspector, two Head Constables and eight constable were suspended for dereliction of duty.

A case had been registered in the rural police station at Surya Pet, he said, adding that ailing Satyam Babu, was so weak that he could not walk even a few steps. The police carried him to the court while he was being produced.

Meanwhile, Satyam Babu’s mother alleged that there was conspiracy behind the escape of his son from police custody.

Ayesha, a B Pharma student was raped and brutally murdered in her hostel at Ibrahimpatnam, on the outskirts of the city on Decemebr 27, 2007.

The Opposition had raised the issued several times in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly.
